Writing Focus
The focus should be on writing and exploring this new technology in a safe environment. Don't worry about your typing skills or making mistakes as you begin. There will be time for editing. This is about learning and trying your best and supporting others in their efforts. It is about improving and discovering resources. You may choose to write in English, Spanish, or both! First get your ideas down, and then go back and edit by yourself and finally with a partner.
Editing
Every writer knows that writing requires some rewriting. It's fun stuff! Here is a checklist.
Edit with a partner. (Read it out loud with your partner!)
Edit with a partner. (Read it out loud with your partner!)
- Does it have a descriptive or catchy title that describes the content?
- Do you follow the guidelines and only include your first name and no personal information.
- Do all of your sentences begin with a capital letter and end with punctuation?
- Is your "I" capitalized? It doesn't want to be a small i. Don't hurt it's feelings.
- Is everything spelled correctly? (You can use the spell checker in Word.)
- Is it appropriate for your audience? (Smiley faces, slang vs. professional)
- Can you suggest a way for your partner to develop his/her ideas or to add details?
Don't Forget Design
Your focus should be on writing, but time allowing also think about design as you develop your pages. Here are a few ideas to consider:
- Font type and size (Use the + and - buttons to adjust the size)
- Number of pictures. Use one or two and/or one of your iPad creations. Too many pictures can create the sense of clutter.
- Placement of pictures and creations
- Color
- Balance
- Consistency
